Jamaica, June 15: Adrian Barath, the talented West Indies opening batsman, makes a return to the West Indies national side for the fifth ODI against India in Jamaica after recovering from a hamstring injury that had caused him to miss the 2011 ICC World Cup in the Indian sub-continent. Ravi Rampaul, who had played the first two ODIs of the five-match series but was given a break thereafter, also makes a return to the squad.
Barath comes in for opener Kirk Edwards who scored a mere 46 runs in the first three ODIs of this series and was subsequently dropped for the fourth ODI played at North Sound, Antigua. Rampaul, meanwhile, comes in for Danza Hyatt, another batsman whose solitary run from two innings in this series did not win him much favour with the West Indies selectors.
Indian fans would be familiar with Barath, having seen the swashbuckling opener in action at Champions League Twenty20 2009 where he opened the innings for Trinidad and Tobago with great success. Barath has played just eight ODIs for the West Indies since making his debut against Zimbabwe in March 2010 and averages 32.00 in the 50-over format.
India have already attained an unassailable 3-1 series lead in the five-match ODI contest. The final ODI between the two teams will be played at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica on June 16.
West Indies squad: Darren Sammy (c), Carlton Baugh (wk), Devendra Bishoo, Darren Bravo, Adrian Barath, Ravi Rampaul, Anthony Martin, Kieron Pollard, Kemar Roach, Andre Russell, Marlon Samuels, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Lendl Simmons.
