Well-respected coach Shri Tarak Sinha passes away

The Board of Control for Cricket in India expresses grief at the passing away of renowned and well-respected coach Shri Tarak Sinha. The founder of Sonnet Cricket Club, which produced an assembly line international and first-class cricketers breathed his last on Saturday.

A recipient of the Dronacharya Award, Sinha had been coaching and nurturing cricketers for over four decades. From Surinder Khanna to Rishabh Pant and Anjum Chopra to Rumeli Dhar, Sinha always insisted on setting higher benchmarks for his pupils. While he coached the wards, he was also credited for spotting talents at an early age and giving them the right kind of coaching required to shape their careers.

Mr Sinha also briefly coached the Indian Women’s Team and worked with the likes of India legends Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami. He also enjoyed a successful run as a Ranji Trophy coach.

Even as was battling cancer for the last two months, his heart still beat for cricket and his pupils. “Tarak sir's pride was his students, and his support through this period kept him going. He was only thinking about grooming young talent during this battle. Even at the age of 70, he was enthusiastic about getting to the field and working on young cricketers", stated the PTI quoting Sonnet Cricket Club’s statement.

"He was in good spirits till his last breath, believing he could still get up on his feet!

"It's a heavy day for all of us at Sonnet Club, the cricket fraternity and most importantly the students who have always seen him as a guardian.”
