In the first match of the three-match one-day series, Anuja Patil-led India A Women’s team beat Bangladesh A Women’s team in Hubli to take a 1-0 lead in the series. After posting 215 on the board, the home team restricted the visitors to 183 for six to register a 32-run win.
Vanitha VR (76 off 89) got India A off to a good start with MD Thirushkamini after the hosts elected to bat. The pair had put together 104 runs until Rumana Ahmed claimed Thirushkamini to break the opening partnership. 19 runs later, Shaila Sharmin accounted for the opener to leave the home team on 123 for two. India A then continued to lose wickets at regular intervals.
Jemimah Rodrigues was the next to return to the pavilion for 24. Trudging on, Patil took the team past the 200-run mark with Devika Vaidya, until she was sent back by Salma Khatun leaving the side on 201 for four. With little over four overs left, the rest of the line-up crumbled. The hosts were 212 for nine with five balls left as they caved in to the Bangladesh attack. Sukanya Parida took the team to 215 for nine with P Bose.
Kavita then gave India A their first breakthrough with 11 runs on the board by accounting for M Sarmin Sultana. While Lata Mondol (45 off 92) put up a resistance the India ‘A’ attack pegged the opposition back curbing the flow of runs and striking at regular intervals.
Vaidya claimed two wickets while Patil, Bose, Jemimah, Kavita claimed a wicket each to bowl India ‘A’ to victory.
