With a nine-wicket win a low-scoring game against Thailand, India registered their second successive victory of the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup. The Harmanpreet Kaur–led team restricted the hosts to 69 for five after Thailand elected to bat. Veda Krishnamurthy and S Meghana then chased down the target with 53 balls to spare.
Opening the bowling with Shikha Pandey, young Mansi Joshi claimed opener Sirintara Saengsakaorat in her first over to reduce Thailand to six for one. Seven runs later, she also accounted for Nattakan Chantham.
N Boochatham and R Padunglerd then worked to stitch a partnership and had taken Thailand to 37 until the former was sent back by Pandey. The penultimate over witnessed two run outs as the batters looked to add runs to the total. Padunglerd was run out leaving the team on 57 for four in the penultimate over followed by S Tippoch.
C Sutthiruang and W Leingprasert then saw Thailand through to their quota of overs setting India a 70-run target. Chasing the sub-par total, Veda Krishnamurthy and S Meghana put up a 49-run opening stand until the former departed in the eight over. The stylish stroke-maker scored 35 off 27 balls comprising four boundaries and a six until she was stumped off Tippoch. Meghana (29* off 30) then took the team across the line with Sushma Verma.
