KS Bharat scored 68 as 20 wickets fell in the match between Andhra and Goa to help secure a vital first innings lead.
Hyderabad’s Tanmay Agarwal and Haryana’s Guntashveer Singh's scored unbeaten centuries while Chhattisgarh’s S Ruikar claimed a five-for. The match between Kerala and Tripura is evenly poised.
Group C, Round 8 – Day 1 Round-up:
Kerala vs Tripura in Cuttack: Tripura 1st inn 213/10 in 79.5 overs (Yashpal Singh 50, MB Murasingh 42, S Warrier 3/34, J Saxena 3/37); Kerala 1st inn 11/0 in 3 overs. Lead by 202 runs
Tripura posted a respectable 213 runs after electing to bat in the penultimate round of the ongoing season. Sandeep Warrier gave Kerala their first breakthrough with the wicket of B Gosh to leave the opposition on 10 for one while Basil Thampy followed up with the wicket of A Dey soon after. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals even as Yashpal Singh looked to keep the innings afloat. The experienced bat, made 50 off 99 balls while MB Murasingh scored 42 off 66 balls lower down the order to help the team to 213 before being bowled out.
Warrier and Jalaj Saxena picked three wickets each as Kerala bowled Tripura out on the first day.
In reply, the Kerala openers had scored 11 runs in three overs and were trailing by 202 runs at the end of day’s play.
Hyderabad vs J & K in Vadodara: Hyd 1st inn 234/3 in 90 overs (T Agarwal 106, S Badrinath 47, B Anirudh 46, P Rasool 2/39)
Hyderabad opener Tanmay Agarwal helped the team to 234 for three until play ended for the day with an unbeaten 106-run knock. While Parvez Rasool accounted for skipper S Badrinath and B Anirudh, the opener held up one end patiently. He was batting with B Sandeep, who was yet to open his account when play ended for the day.
Andhra vs Goa in Dhanbad: Goa 1st inn 115/10 in 52.4 overs (S Amonkar 29, B Bhatt 6/36, B Siddharth 4/52); Andhra 1st inn 159/10 in 34.3 overs (KS Bharat 68, B Bhatt 25, S Jakati 8/53)
After electing to field first, Andhra’s spinners - Bhargav Bhatt and B Siddharth dismantled the Goa lineup on the first day to set up the game in the team’s favour. The left-arm spinner claimed six wickets while the off-spinner, Siddharth took four to bowl Goa out for 115.
Wickets continued to tumble in Dhanbad as Andhra too were bowled out until the end of day’s play. Left-arm spinner Shadab Jakati accounted for eight of Andhra’s wickets. While the spinners got purchase from the wicket, Andhra opener, KS Bharat played a vital knock that ensured his side a 44-run lead. The wicketkeeper-batsman scored 68 off 67 balls before his was bowled by Jakati. Lower down the order, Bhatt to made a useful 25 which has helped the side to a lead which may prove decisive in the result.
Chhattisgarh vs Services in Mumbai: Services 1st inn 225/10 in 85.1 overs (N Verma 54, V Hathwala 50, S Ruikar 5/73, A Chauhan 2/24); Chhattisgarh 1st inn 8/0 in 2 overs. Trail by 217 runs
After Services elected to bat, the S Ruikar-led Chhattisgarh attack bowled the side out for 225. The spinner picked five wickets while Abhimanyu Chauhan, leading the side in the absence if Mohammed Kaif, picked two wickets. N Verma at the top of the order and V Hathwala in the lower middle-order scored half-centuries to help the team to a decent total in their first innings until being bowled out later in the day.
In reply, Chhattisgarh were eight without loss at stumps.
Himachal vs Haryana in Valsad: Haryana 1st inn 237/3 in 90 overs (G Singh 110*, M Sharma 20*, K Abhinay 3/48)
After S Rohilla retired hurt for two, G Singh joined N Saini in an effort to shape the Haryana innings. With 91 runs on the board, the opener was bowled by K Singh for 39. While the bowler claimed two more wickets during the day’s play, the No 3 bat anchored the innings with an unbeaten knock. He was batting on 110 with skipper Mohit Sharma on 20 when play ended for the day. At stumps, Haryana were 237 for three.
