With a comprehensive win against Tripura on the third day of the last round of the league phase of Ranji Trophy 2016-17, Haryana secured a spot in the knockout phase of the tournament. The other team to qualify for the knockouts will be decided on the result between Hyderabad and Andhra.

Haryana declared their innings on 261 for nine setting the opposition a 315-run target. After resuming their innings on 186 for four, the lower order helped the side extend the lead with useful contributions until Mohit Sharma decided to declare the innings.
The Haryana pace attack then bowled Tripura for 195 to claim victory and a spot in the quarter-finals. After Harshal Patel claimed both the openers, Mohit Sharma removed SM Singh and Yashpal Singh to reduce Tripura to 42 for four. Joginder Sharma (two wickets) and Sanjay Pahal (three wickets) then dismantled the rest of the lineup to bowl the side to victory.

After Hyderabad resumed their first innings on 81 for five, Andhra bowled them out for 143 and seized a 47-run first innings lead. Andhra, who need a win to qualify for the next stage then declared their innings on 171 for six later in the day to set the opposition a 219-run target.
Skipper GH Vihari scored a half-century while the rest of the batting order made sizeable contributions to set up the match.
At stumps, Andhra had reduced Hyderabad to 13 for one. The team that wins will join Haryana in the next stage of the tournament. However, if the match ends in a draw, Hyderabad will qualify.

Powered by P Chopra’s 194 and S Verma’s 160, Himachal posted 528 run in reply to Goa’s first innings total of 380 to take the first innings lead. With S Amonkar batting on 54 with Darshan Misal, Goa were 99 for two at stumps.

After resuming the innings on 31 for one, Kerala were left tottering on 74 for four by the Irfan Khan-led attack. However, Sachin Baby and Jalaj Saxena joined forces to keep the innings afloat and had taken it to 261 when the latter returned to the pavilion.
Sachin Baby was batting on 112 with A Chandran when play ended for the day. The pair had taken Kerala to 271 for five at stumps.

S Ruikar claimed a five-for while Pankaj Rao picked three wickets to bowl J & K out for 242 and claim a first innings lead. While the rest of the lineup caved in to the J & K attack, Ian Dev Singh (48) and Parvez Rasool (92) toiled to keep the innings afloat. Chhattisgarh were 101 for one at stumps and had extended their lead to 229 runs.
