India inflict heavy defeat on Bangladesh

Defending champions India made most of the second warm-up tie and signaled their intentions ahead of their first Champions Trophy match against Pakistan with a thundering win. After registering a 45-run win (D/L method) in the first warm-up game against New Zealand, India mauled Bangladesh by 240 runs in the final warm-up game.

Once the batters posted a massive 324/7 after being put into bat, the bowlers led the march to skittle Bangladesh out for just 84 runs in 23.5 overs.

After the openers put on 11 on the board, Bangladesh lost three wickets for the same score as Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar ran through the top order. Umesh had Soumya Sarkar caught by wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik and in the same over, bowled Sabbir Rahman with an in swinger.

Bhunveshwar then used the short ball and was rewarded with the wickets of Imrul Kayes and Shakib Al Hasan. He then followed it up with the wicket of Mahmudullah. The fall of wickets continued as Bangladesh slipped to 22/6 before a 25-run and 30-run stands for seventh and eighth wicket respectively helped them cross the 50-run mark.

Jasprit Bumrah, R Ashwin and Hardik Pandya then shared a wicket each.
Earlier, Dinesh Karthik's 94 off 77 balls and Hardik’s whirlwind 80 off 54 balls helped India post a mammoth total. Rohit Sharma was out in the first over and Ajinkya Rahane was also dismissed early, but Shikhar Dhawan struck 60 off 67 balls to help lay the foundation.

Both teams were able to field 15 players, with only 11 allowed to bat or field.

Brief score: India 324/7 in 50 overs (Karthik 94, Pandya 80*, Dhawan 60) beat Bangladesh 84/10 in 23.5 overs (Mehedi Miraz 24, Bhuvneshwar Kumar 3/13, Umesh Yadav 3/16) by 240 runs
