After their batsmen had set-up the game for Delhi with a mammoth total, left-arm spinner Manan Sharma bowled the team to an innings and 83 run win in their opening game of Ranji Trophy 2016-17.
Saurashtra picked three points on the basis of a first innings lead courtesy Shauaray Sanandia’s six-for to bowl Team Rajasthan out for a meager total. Vidarbha opened their account in the points table with three points on the basis of a first innings lead against Odisha.

Saurashtra’s S Sanandia ran through Team Rajasthan’s first innings on the fourth day of the game after they resumed on 62 for one. The bowler’s first scalp was MN Singh who was sent back on his overnight total. While D Jadeja and Deepak Punia pitched in with a wicket each, the pacer accounted for five more wickets to bowl the opposition out for a paltry 105 and seize a massive first innings lead.
Enforcing the follow on, Saurashtra again had the opposition in a bind however. When the match was ended, Team Rajasthan were 30 for four in the second innings.
Odisha vs Vidarbha in Vizag: Odisha 1st inn 150/10 in 78.1 (B Samantaray 53, A Wakhare 3/19); Vidarbha 1st inn 272/6 decl in 102 overs (F Fazal 99, D Behera 3/35); Odisha 2nd inn 274/9 decl. in 102.1 overs (G Podder 58, S Pattanaik 40, A Wakhare 3/61, R Jangid 2/21) Match drawn. S Pattanaik was the first to depart in the morning, sent back by Lalit for the addition of four runs to Odisha’s overnight total. While the bowler also accounted for Govind Podder later, Akshay Wakahre (three wickets), A Saravate (two wickets and R Jangid (two wickets) kept Odisha’s second innings in check. When the match was called off, Odisha were 274 for nine and had declared their innings.
Having conceded the first innings lead to Vidarbha they received one point while the Faiz Fazal-led team picked three points.

Although they put forth a better performance than their first innings, Assam were outplayed by Delhi in the opening game. Trailing by 296 runs with seven wickets in hand, Assam were bowled out for 313 in the second innings by Manan Sharma and Co. Navdeep Saini broke the overnight partnership between Amit Verma and KB Arun Karthick with the wicket of the former. Although Tarjinder Singh, Syed Mohammed (82) and S Purkayastha fought to draw the game, Manan Sharma and Pradeep Sangwan then ran through the rest of the lineup to bowl the team to victory with a bonus point.
Manan finished with a five-for while Sangwan picked two wickets as Delhi got off to a winning start in the tournament.
