Abhinav Mukund leads TN to 1st inn lead with century

While Surya Kumar Yadav helped Mumbai to a good first innings score with a century, Karn Sharma picked five wickets for Railways. Against Baroda, skipper Abhinav Mukund helped TN to a solid first innings lead with a century and was ably supported by B Indrajith and Dinesh Karthik in the effort. In the match against UP, the Punjab batsmen are on course to overhaul the opposition’s first innings total.

Group A, Round 5 – Day 2 Round-up:

Mumbai vs Railways in Mysore: Mumbai 1st inn 345/10 in 133.2 overs (S Yadav 110, K Sharma 5/81); Railways 1st inn 76/3 in 45 overs (A Singh 22, N Bhille 15*, V Gohil 2/25) Trail by 269 runs

43 runs after Surya Kumar Yadav and Abhishek Nayar resumed the Mumbai innings on 244 for five on the second morning the all-rounder was sent back by Deepak Bansal to give Railways a crucial breakthrough. Balwinder Sandhu then joined the middle-order batsman to take Mumbai past the 300-run mark, but was sent back by Karn Sharma leaving Mumbai on 315 for seven. A little later, Surya Kumar, who had notched up his 11th first-class ton, was castled by Amit Mishra for 110.

Shardul Thakur then looked to add valuable runs to the tally with the young lower-order batsmen. However, Tushar Deshpande, who had played a valuable knock against MP in the previous game was sent back by the Railways captain for 14. And three runs later, Vijay Gohil was run out by Mishra to wrap-up the Mumbai innings for 345.

Tushar Deshpande then gave Mumbai their first wicket by disrupting Shivakant Shukla’s woodwork while Vijay Gohil accounted for Saurabh and A Singh to leave Railways on 56 for three. At stumps Nitin Bhille and Arindam Gosh had taken the Karn Sharma-led team to 76 for three.

Tamil Nadu vs Baroda in Raipur: Baroda 1st inn 93/10 in 34.3 overs (K Devdhar 26, Vignesh K 5/23, A Crist 3/39); TN 1st inn 337/10 in 102.4 overs (A Mukund 100, D Karthik 65, M Patel 4/91); Baroda 2nd inn 44/0 in 16 overs. Trail by 200 runs

Century by skipper Abhinav Mukund and valuable knocks by B Indrajith (68) and D Karthik (65) helped Tamil Nadu take a 244-run first innings lead. While the bowlers had skittled Baroda out for 93, the top half of the TN lineup helped shape the innings and set up a solid first innings total. However, with Munaf Patel (four wickets) running through the lower order, TN were bowled out for 337. He first claimed M Ranagarajan to leave TN on 305 for six and followed up with three more while M Vohara sent back D Karthik as they bowled TN out.

When play ended for the day, Baroda were 44 without loss and trailing by 200 runs.

Punjab vs Uttar Pradesh in Hyderabad:
UP 1st inn 335/10 in 102.2 overs (K Yadav 71, S Kumar 52, S Sharma 5/85); Punjab 1st inn 244/3 in 75 overs (Y Singh 72*, J Singh 62, S Kumar 3/59) Trail by 91 runs

Sandeep Sharma claimed three of the remaining four UP wickets to bowl the team out for 335 after resuming on 300 for six in the morning. After adding 23 runs to the overnight score, Kuldeep Yadav returned to the pavilion for 71 on the second morning. Sandeep Sharma ended the seventh wicket stand for 81 with the wicket of the lower-order bat and followed up with the wicket of Imitiaz Ahmed four runs later. Siddharth Kaul then sent back Saurabh Kumar for 52 while Sandeep trapped Amit Mishra lbw to end the innings.

Manan Vohra and Jiwanjot Singh helped Punjab off to a good start with a 117-run opening stand. Saurabh Kumar, who ended the partnership was the only wicket-taker for his side on the second day. After sending back both openers, he also accounted for Uday Kaul to leave the team on 227 for three. Mandeep Singh then joined stand-in captain, Yuvraj Singh to help the team to stumps as they look to close in on the oppositions total. At stumps, the left-handed batsman was not out on 72 with Mandeep on 12 with Punjab on 244 for three. Gujarat vs Bengal in New Delhi: No play on the second day at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium.
