After grafting runs on the first day, Services piled on a massive score on Day 2 courtesy century by Shamsher Yadav (136). In the match against Chhattisgarh, Goa pacer, Rituraj Singh claimed six wickets.
Himachal seized a solid first innings lead against J & K while the match between Haryana and Kerala is evenly poised.
Group C, Round 5 – Day 2 Round-up:
Andhra vs Services in Indore: Services 1st inn 400/8 in 179 overs (S Yadav 136, R Gahlaut 95*, DB Ravi Teja 2/24)
After putting together 170 for three on Day 1, Services added 230 runs on the second day to end the day on 400 for eight. Shamsher Yadav, who had resumed his innings on 60 went on to post 136 (off 431 balls) before he was sent back by Bhargav Bhatt. While he anchored the innings, the rest of the lineup chipped in with useful knocks to help build a solid first innings score. After the departure of the middle-order batsman, Rahul Gahlaut continued to carry the innings forward and was five runs short of a century when play ended for the day.

Building on the advantage given by their bowlers, Paras Dogra (89) and Rishi Dhawan (79*) helped Himachal to a 208-run first innings lead.
After resuming the innings on 58 for two, A Kalsi and Dogra stitched a partnership to take the team to 136 until the former was sent back by Parvez Rasool for 54. The middle-order batsmen continued to chip in with useful contributions to help surpass the opposition total as Dogra anchored the innings. The experienced campaigner was eventually sent back by Aamir Aziz for 89 leaving HP on 261 for six. Dhawan then held up one end to help the team to a comfortable total even as the J & K spinners continued to strike at the other. The HP captain remained not out on 79 off 108 balls as he ran out of partners. A Aziz picked four wickets while Rasool claimed three for J & K to bowl HP out for 370.
In reply, the J & K openers – Shubham Khajuria and Umar Nissar - had taken the team to 39 until the end of day’s play and trailed by 169 runs.
Goa vs Chhattisgarh in Cuttack: Chhattisgarh 1st inn 198/10 in 71.3 overs (A Khare 60, A Singh 55*, RR Singh 6/60); Goa 1st inn 127/6 in 57 overs (S Dubhashi 38*, AK Singhh 3/27, P Rao 2/58) Trail by 71 runs
Chhattisgarh lost their remaining eight wickets for the addition of 95 runs to their overnight score of 103 for two. Pacer R Singh ran through the line up to bowl the team out on the second day. Amandep Khare was bowled for 60 by the bowler after he had added two runs to his overnight score. He then followed up with the wicket of Abhimanyu Chauhan and a bit later trapped captain Mohd. Kaif lbw to leave the side on 142 for five. As wickets continued to timble, Ashutosh Singh strove to keep the innings afloat and was stranded on 55 when the team was bowled out for 198.
Pacers Pankaj Rao and AK Singh then claimed the Goa top-order to finish Day 2 with two and three wickets respectively in the bag.
After Rao set the ball rolling with the wicket of Sumairan Amonkar, Singh followed up with the wicket of Swapnil Asnodakar to leave Goa on 34 for two. Picking wickets at regular intervals they had left the opposition tottering on 70 for six. However, Samar Dubhashi and Shadab Jakati played determinedly to take the team to stumps without further loss of wickets. At stumps Goa were 127 for six.
Kerala vs Haryana in Jaipur: Haryana 1st inn 303/10 in 109.1 overs (R Sharma 92, S Pahal 54, Warrier 5/80); Kerala 1st inn 170/1 in 57 overs (V Vinod 58, B Thakkar 56*, R Prem 51*) Trail by 133 runs
Rohit Sharma found an able ally in S Pahal to help Haryana to a competitive first innings total. The pair continued to add useful runs to the scoreline after resuming on 227 for eight on Day 2. The ninth wicket stand was worth 109 runs when Pahal was bowled by Jalaj Saxena for 54. Rohit then looked to add to the total and had taken the team to 303 when Sandeep Warrier sent back the middle-order bat for 92 to end the innings.
Half-centuries by the top three Kerala batsmen then helped the team to 170 for one until stumps. While Vishnu Vinod was bowled by Harshal Patel for 58, Bhavin Thakkar (56*) and Rohan Prem (51*) saw the team through to the end of day’s play.
