Karnataka secure easy win

Karnataka had no trouble whatsoever in securing a massive 393-run win over Team Rajasthan in Vizianagarm. Assam pocketed three points on the basis of first innings lead against Assam in Hyderabad on the fourth day of the sixth round of Ranji Trophy 2016-17 Group B matches.

Karnataka vs Team Rajasthan in Vizianagarm:
Karnataka 374 (KL Rahul 76, Mayank Agarwal 81; Pankaj Singh 2/82, Tanveer-ul-Haq 5/82) & 298/6d (KL Rahul 106, Mayank Agarwal 63) beat Rajasthan 148/10 (Pranay Sharma 26, SiddharthDobral 47; Vinay Kumar 4/ 28, SreenathAravind 4/36) & 131/10 (Salman Khan 39, Vinay Kumar 5/54, SreenathAravind 3/ 19) by 393 runs

Karnataka needed just 16 minutes on the final day to secure four Team Rajasthan wickets and seal a massive 393 runs victory. Resuming overnight on 118/6, Team Rajasthan were bowled out for just 131 runs. Captain Vinay Kumar, who took four wickets in the first innings, was once again the pick of the bowlers, taking five-for in the second innings. In what has been a memorable match for Karnataka, Vinay also went past the mark of 400 first-class wickets during the course of the match.

This was Karnataka’s fourth straight victory and they lead the Group B table. Team Rajasthan are sixth in the points table with 12 points.

Odisha vs Assam in Hyderabad:
Assam 301/10 in (K Saikia 135, KB ArunKarthick 62, B Mohanty 3/18, S Pradhan 3/90) & 166/4(Rishav Das 69, Dhiraj Singh 2/27) drew with Odisha 459/7 d (G Podder 225, BiplabSamantray 103, A Das 3/60)

Having declared on their overnight score of 459/7 with a first-innings lead of 158 runs, Odisha looked to press for an outright victory on the fourth day but had to be content with three points after Assam batters provided strong resistance in their second essay. They batted for 76 overs and made 166 runs before the two captains decided to shake hands as the match ended in a draw. Assam opener Rishav Das faced 222 balls and batted for 279 minutes and his partner made 23 as the two put on 41 for the first wicket. Sibsankar Roy then joined Das and the two nearly batted for 30 overs denying Odisha bowlers any opportunities to have full points.

Odisha are now placed fifth whereas Assam are sixth.
