Third day’s play abandoned due to rain

For the second successive day at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, play had to be called off without a ball being bowled. Since the toss on first day, only 22 have been bowled in the fourth and final Test. Although it did not rain on Saturday morning, several wet patches on the ground resulted in a delayed start.

A couple of inspections later, the ground staff was instructed to dug up parts of the stadium with a pitchfork to aerate it, but the unusual practice brought little relief and more agony as it started pouring down around noon. The covers were back on the field and the dug up area was also covered, but it remains to be seen if any water has seeped in around the particular area. With no super sopper at the ground, natural light is the only option to dry the outfield.

Meanwhile, the Indian team practiced in the indoor nets and at the practice nets with the batting group taking turns. The practice session too had to be stopped due to rain and the team headed back to the hotel soon after the play was called off around 12.30 local time.
