A tremendous partnership between Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane has put India in an unassailable position at the end of day-three of the fourth Test. At one stage it looked as if India would also be in trouble when they lost four wickets. Morne Morkel was getting the ball to talk and was getting the ball to move. He started to use the bouncer to great effect.
The yorker he bowled to Shikhar Dhawan to get him out would have made West Indians proud. It was a very spirited effort by the South Africans till Tea time. Once Kohli and Rahane got the partnership going, suddenly the spirits dropped and it is understandable. They have been on a long tour. Many of them have been here from 2nd October. They probably are thinking about going home. May be in their mind they have one foot on the plane as it is just a couple of days before they are on a flight back home.
That happens when you have a forgettable tour. The time seems a little too much and you are thinking about catching that plane rather than what should be happening on the field.
Credit must also be given to Kohli and Rahane for the way they batted. Virat, in particular, was magnificent. He had got out unluckily in the first innings, but this time around, he batted well. He was lucky that when he was given out caught behind off Imran Tahir, the slow motion replays showed that Tahir had overstepped and that is why it was a no ball.
India are already 400 plus as far as the lead is concerned. They will probably want to bat till Lunch tomorrow and may be look for their skipper to get a century. If Rahane bats well, he can add to his first innings century and if that happens, the target would be 500, which would be impossible to chase.
