Mumbai trumped Uttar Pradesh by eight wickets in the Senior Women's T20 Plate Group final held at JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi. The Mumbai team led by Sunetra Paranjape, shot out UP for just 64 runs and then sailed to victory with 16 balls to spare.
Run outs by Fatima Jaffer and Sheral Rozario left UP reeling at five for two after electing to bat first. Couple of overs later, Rozario then dealt a double-blow to leave the opposition at 11 for four. Although opener Deepti and No. 6 Shefali Sahu looked to rebuild the innings, the departure of the former with the team on 43 triggered yet another collapse. With Jaffer and Sunetra picking two wickets each, the UP batting line-up folded with 10 balls still remaining in the innings.
Chasing the sub-par score, Mumbai too lost their first wicket to a run out with just nine runs on the board. However, R Jemimah took the team to victory with an unbeaten 30-run knock. After the departure of opener Sunetra (15), Mugdha Joshi (13) joined the No 3 bat to guide Mumbai to a thumping win. Both the finalists will be elevated to the Elite group in the next (2016-17) season.
Brief scores: UP 64/10 in 18.2 overs (Deepti 18, S Sahu 17, S Rozario 2/11, Sunetra 2/11, F Jaffer 2/13) lost to Mumbai 65/2 in 17.2 overs (Jemimah R 30*, Sunetra 15, Z Firdos 1/13) by 8 wickets.
