Ranji Trophy 2015-16: Round-up, Oct 11

On the fourth day of the second round of Ranji Trophy 2015-16, Assam beat Team Rajasthan by an innings and 152 runs. In Delhi, the hosts posted a ten-wicket win against Vidarbha, while Mumbai coasted to an innings and 12-run win against Punjab. In Group C, Himachal Pradesh beat Jammu and Kashmir to a ten-wicket.

Here are the highlights for the day:

Group A 

Assam vs Team Rajasthan: Assam earned seven points from an innings and 152 runs win against Rajasthan. The hosts bowled the visitors out for 84 in the second innings to canter to a thumping win on the final day of the game. Arup Das (5/39) and Krishna Das (5/23) claimed five-wicket hauls each to bowl Assam to victory.

Delhi vs Vidarbha: Delhi collected seven points from the ten-wicket win against Vidarbha in Delhi. The hosts bowled the visitors out for 98 in the second innings after they had resumed on 47 for four in the morning. Unmukt Chand (51*) and captain Gautam Gambhir (45*) then chased down the 95-run target to take their team to the finish line with ease.

Karnataka vs Bengal: Karnataka gained three points on the basis of a first innings lead against Bengal. After resuming their second innings on 58 for two, Bengal were 249 for four when play was called off and received one point for their effort in the drawn match.

Odisha vs Maharashtra: Maharashtra picked three points on the basis of first innings lead while Odisha got one from the drawn match in Cuttack. Resuming on 156 for three, the visitors declared their second innings on 289 for four later in the day. Chasing 304, the hosts were 129 for five when the match was called off. Kedar Jadhav scored an unbeaten century for the visitors on the final day.

Group B

Andhra vs Gujarat: Andhra picked three points from the drawn match against Gujarat on the basis of their first innings lead. Resuming on 24 for one, Gujarat were 254 for four in the second innings when play was called off.

Baroda vs Railways: Baroda won by innings and 113 runs on the penultimate day.

Madhya Pradesh vs Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu bowled Madhya Pradesh out for 407 on the fourth day to claim a 189-run first innings lead as the match ended in a draw. After resuming on 181 without loss, the MP innings collapsed after the departure of Jalaj Saxena (124). Aswin Crist picked four for 88 while L Vignesh and Rahil Shah took two wickets each.

Mumbai vs Punjab: Akhil Herwadkar bowled Mumbai to an innings and 12-run win with a six-wicket haul against Punjab at the Wankhede Stadium. Mandeep Singh scored a century as the visitors looked to pull off a draw after resuming their second innings on 244 for four on the final day. However, the part-time off-spinner, who had accounted for Yuvraj Singh on the third day, ran through the line-up to pull off victory for the hosts.
 
Mumbai gained seven points for their thrilling win in the second round. 

Group C

Goa vs Services: Services claimed three points for their first innings lead against hosts Goa. After resuming on 268 for eight, Goa were bowled out for 285 in the first innings as P Poonia claimed a five-wicket haul to bowl the visitors to a first innings lead.

Building on the lead, Services scored 217 for six before declaring their innings and set the home team a 335-run target. Goa were three without loss when the match was called off and received one point from the match.

Himachal Pradesh vs Jammu & Kashmir:
HP coasted to a ten-wicket win to collect seven points from the Group C encounter. Earlier, after resuming on 85 for one, J & K were bowled out for 276 runs. A Vashisht picked four wickets while B Sharma took three as they set-up a win for the hosts in Dharamsala. They then chased down the 16-run target to canter to a thumping win.

Hyderabad vs Kerala: Kerala received three points on the basis of first innings lead against Hyderabad while the hosts got one from the drawn match. Resuming on 207 for eight, the home team were bowled out for 218 and asked to follow on.

Hyderabad were 176 for seven in the second innings when play was called off.

Saurashtra vs Jharkhand: Saurashtra coasted to eight-wicket win on the second day.
