Ranji Trophy 2015-16: Round-up, Oct 18

Mumbai witnessed a dramatic day’s play as the hosts pulled off a nerve-wracking win against Tamil Nadu after conceding a 141-run first innings lead. The Aditya Tare-led team came back to win the match by one wicket and move to top of the points table.

In Delhi the Gautam Gambhir-led home team beat Virender Sehwag-led Haryana in Delhi. Railways beat Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand defeated Kerala on the fourth day of the third round of Ranji Trophy 2015-16.

Here are the highlights for the day:

Group A


Delhi vs Haryana: Delhi won by four wicket. Delhi 2nd inn 225/6 (U Chand 99, M Kumar 44*)

Unmukt Chand guided Delhi’s 224-run chase with a 99-run knock against Haryana in Delhi. 

Karnataka vs Vidarbha: Match Drawn; Karnataka gained three points for first innings lead. Karnataka 2nd inn 331/3 decl (R Samarth 121*, K Nair 101*); Vidarbha 2nd inn 17/0

R Samarth and Karun Nair scored unbeaten centuries as Karnataka batted on the last day after having already seized a first inning lead earlier in the match. 

Bengal vs Team Rajasthan: Match Drawn; Bengal gained three points on the basis of first inn lead. Bengal 282/10 (M Tiwary 83, P Shaw 52); Team Rajasthan 146/5 (A Menaria 69*, A Dinda 2/21)

Manoj Tiwary helped Bengal to a first innings lead with a 83-run knock in the rain affected match against Team Rajasthan in Kolkata.
Odisha vs Assam: Odisha won by eight wickets on Day 3

Group B

Tamil Nadu vs Mumbai: Mumbai won by 1 wicket. TN 2nd inn 95/10 (M Rangarajan 33, V Dabholkar 7/53); Mumbai 2nd inn S Iyer 83, SK Yadav 58, Rahil Shah 4/78)

Vishal Dabholkar (7/53) helped bowl TN out for 95 in the second innings to give Mumbai a chance to fight for a win.

Shreyas Iyer (83 off 71) then clobbered the TN bowlers to set-up the 236-run chase.

Gujarat vs Punjab: Match drawn; Punjab claimed three points for 1st inn lead. Punjab 2nd inn 608/10 (Yuvraj Singh 187, R Bhatt 8/151); Guj 2nd inn 135/4 (B Merai 56, S Ladda 2/60)

Yuvraj Singh batted Punjab to first innings lead with a sparkling 233-run knock. The stand-in captain clobbered the bowlers en route to 187 after reaching a well compiled century in Mohali.

Baroda vs Andhra: Match Drawn; Andhra gained three points on the basis of first innings lead. Andhra 1st inn 474/6 decl (AG Pradeep 100, K Panchal 2/23); Baroda 2nd inn 60/2 (K Devdhar 30*, B Ayyappa 2/18)

AG Pradeep became the third batsman to score a century in the innings for Andhra as he made 100 to help overhaul Baroda's first innings total of 302 runs.

Railways vs Uttar Pradesh: Railways won by 282 runs. Railways 2nd inn 229/4 decl (F Ahmed 80); UP 2nd inn 58/10 (Anureet Singh 5/15, K Upadhyay 4/32)

Anureet Singh ran through the UP line-up with K Upadhyay to bowl Railways to a comprehensive win. The pacer picked five for 15 to take his team earn six points from the match.

Group C

Goa vs Tripura: Goa won by nine wickets on Day 3.

Kerala vs Jharkhand: Jharkhand won by 133 runs. Jharkhand 2nd inn 262/10 (Kaushal Singh 44*, KS Monis 5/66); Kerala 183/10 (A Kodoth 72, S Nadeem 7/64)

Shahbaz Nadeem bowled Jharkhand to a comprehensive victory with a seven-wicket haul on the last day of the game.

Hyderabad vs Himachal Pradesh: Match Drawn; Himachal Pradesh claimed three points on the basis of first innings lead. HP 1st inn 707/8 decl (R Bist 220*, R Dhawan 114); Hyderabad 2nd inn 2/0

Robin Bist anchored Himachal to a first innings with Rishi Dhawan in the high-scoring match in Dharamsala. The middle-order batsman was unbeaten on 220 when the hosts declared their first innings later in the day.

Services vs Jammu & Kashmir:
Services won by nine wickets on Day 2.
