After an impressive 2015 World Cup campaign Bangladesh now look to prove their credentials in whites against a strong Indian line-up. On the eve of the Test match, Bangladesh Test Captain Mushfiqur Rahim believed their opponents were strong but his side too had an equal chance of a positive result.
“India are a good side but I still think it is a 50-50 game," Rahim said analyzing team India. "They have got quality spinners. If our batsmen can handle them, I think this will be an exciting Test."
Bangladesh are coming off a brilliant run after defeating Pakistan 3-0 in an ODI series at home before losing the two-Test series against the same opponents 1-0. Although Bangladesh’s previous Test encounter against India doesn’t make for good reading – they lost the two Tests by a huge margin in 2010 – Rahim insists Bangladesh had come a long way since then.
"We may have lost both Tests five years ago, but there were some strong individual performances by us," he said. "We have improved, both individually and as a team. We are confident that we can give a tough fight.
"But we have to be more consistent,” stressed Rahim. “We play well for two days, but let ourselves down over the next three days. We must now play session by session and ensure we win maximum sessions."
Rahim, who is recovering from a finger injury, said he will wait until the toss before deciding if he plays as a specialist batsman and leaves wicket-keeping duties to uncapped Litton Das.
