Ranji Trophy 2014-15: QF Round-up, Feb 16

Robin Uthappa’s 153 helped Karnataka to a comfortable position against Assam on Day-one. In another knock-out game, Andhra’s Siva Kumar put his side in a commanding position with a six-wicket haul to bowl Maharashtra out for a double-digit score. Mumbai too were backed into the corner by the Sumit Narwal-led Delhi attack earlier in the day. Here are the highlights of the first day’s play:

Andhra vs Maharashtra: Electing to bat first at Lahli, Maharashtra were bundled out for 91 by the Siva Kumar-led attack. The Andhra bowler claimed 6/41 while P Vijay Kumar took 2/29. CV Stephen picked 2/19 to bowl Maharashtra out in 41.5 overs.

In reply, Andhra were 87/3 and trailing by four runs at stumps. Anupam Sanklecha had claimed 3/31 while Samad Fallah accounted for KS Bharat. At the end of day's DB Prashanth Kumar was batting on 26 with AG Pradeep on 13.

Assam vs Karnataka: Asked to bat by Assam, Karnataka piled on 302/2 on the first day of the quarter-final clash. A 194-run opening stand between Robin Uthappa and Lokesh Rahul set the tone of the innings for the defending champions. Abu Nechim Ahmed broke the partnership with the wicket of Rahul for 91 while Uthappa went on to score 153 before being sent back by J Syed Mohammed.

At stumps, Samarth R was batting on 39 with Manish Pandey on 18.

Delhi vs Mumbai: The Sumit Narwal-led Delhi attack bowled Mumbai out for 156 after electing to bowl in Cuttack. While the pacer claimed both the openers and later wrapped up the innings with the wicket of B Sandhu, Parvinder Awana and Manan Sharma claimed two wickets each.

Pradeep Sangwan accounted for the key wicket of Suryakumar Yadav and Rajat Bhatia sent back Abhishek Nayar. Nikhil Patil was stranded on 54 as Mumbai's first innings ended in 81 overs.

Delhi were trailing by 136 runs with nine wickets in hand at the end of day's play. Skipper Gautam Gambhir was batting on five while Unmukt Chand was dismissed by Sandhu at the stroke of stumps.

Tamil Nadu vs Vidarbha: In the match in Jaipur, Tamil Nadu were 234/4 at stumps on the first day. Asked to bat, the team from south of India was left reeling on 50/3 but Murali Vijay and Vijay Shankar forged a partnership and took them to 190 before the opener was sent back by RD Thakur. After Murali Vijay was sent back for 96 runs during the final session, the middle-order batsman carried the innings forward with R Prasanna. He was batting on 90 at the end of day's play.
