Lifted by Abhimanyu Mithun and R Samarth’s 149-run stand Karnataka set Mumbai a mountainous 445-run target in the first semi-final. In the second knock-out clash at Kolkata, Tamil Nadu continued to pile on runs and were 426 for the loss of five wickets at stumps. Here are the highlights at the end of second day’s play.
Karnataka vs Mumbai: At the end of second day's play in Bangalore, Mumbai were 384 runs short of the massive 445-run target. The visitors were 61 without loss at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Captain Aditya Tare was batting on 40 with Akhil Herwadkar was on 21.
Earlier, resuming their second innings on 10 for 2 on the second morning, Karnataka posted 286 before being bowled out. Sent in to bat as the night watchman, Abhimanyu Mithun finished as the top-scorer for the hosts with 89 while R Samarth scored 58 to help set up formidable target for Mumbai. Manish Pandey and Karun Nair then took the side past the 200-run mark but the line-up crumbled after the end. Balwinder Sandhu removed Nair to end the partnership and followed up with the wicket of K Kapoor. Pandey was run out, Shardul Thakur accounted for CM Gautam and Shreyas Gopal while Harmeet Singh caught Vinay Kumar off his own bowling.
Thakur picked his second four-wicket haul of the game as Mumbai wrapped Karnataka’s second innings up on the second day.
Tamil Nadu vs Maharashtra: Having added 234 runs for two wickets on the second day to the overnight score of 192 for three, Tamil Nadu were comfortably placed on 426 for five at the end of day's play at the Eden Gardens. Resuming his innings on 48, Dinesh Karthik went on to score 113 before being sent back by Shrikant Mundhe. Earlier in the day, Chirag Khurana accounted for Vijay Shankar (91), who had resumed on the overnight score of 56.
R Prasanna and Baba Indrajith then continued to steadily add to the solid platform and their partnership was unbroken on 107 at the end of day's play. At stumps, Prasanna was batting on 64 with Indrajith on 68.
