What happens when a cricket field plays host to a 100-metre dash; you have the fastest runner on the planet and a voracious hitter of the cricket ball in the middle. Anyone in for role reversals? Bengaluru played host to a role reversal of sorts on Tuesday as Yuvraj Singh and Usain Bolt enthralled a 7000-plus crowd at the M Chinnaswamy stadium with some friendly banter and on-field antics.
Usain Bolt has time and again made his love for cricket evident, and when he got a chance to showcase his skills with his pads on, he didn’t disappoint. In a four-overs-a-side match, ‘Bolt the runner’ showed the crowd his ‘Bolt the batsman’ side. Chasing Team Yuvraj’s ‘modest’ total of 59, Bolt scored 45 of them single-handedly which included 5 hits to the stands. The King of sixes could only look in awe as the balls rocketed to the stands coupled with roars from the crowd. A few claps, a smile and some friendly handshakes later Team Bolt had sealed the deal quite comfortably.
That done; it was time for Yuvraj Singh to take centre stage in a 100-metre sprint. It was an event that the crowd at Bengaluru had waited with bated breath. Afterall, watching the fastest man in the planet in action would be quite a sight. Bolt lined up at the starting point with Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh on either side with a select few fans. To the crowd’s surprise, Yuvraj crossed the finishing line first as Bolt jogged on the slippery surface.
Then came the camera click moment as the duo began to strike a few poses for the shutter bugs. Bolt’s iconic pose of his left arm stretched towards the sky resembling a bow was impersonated by Yuvraj Singh, which made for a picture perfect moment. After a few more smiles and a thank you to the fans who had turned up at the venue the duo and the crowd walked off with only memories to take back. Bengaluru had well and truly been lit up by the Bolt and Yuvraj show.
