We’ll miss Dravid overseas: Sehwag

Mumbai, March 10: Adding to the rich tributes being paid to Rahul Dravid, Indian opener Virender Sehwag said the Test team would feel the void left by the great batsman, especially when playing away from home.

"I don't think a player like Rahul Dravid can come into the Indian cricket team again. Especially his performance in overseas matches can hardly be matched by any player," Sehwag told reporters at a promotional event.

Sehwag was pleased with the manner in which Dravid said goodbye to the game. "I am happy he retired on his terms and conditions. He said his time was up when he wished to retire.”

"It was an honour and privilege for me to play with him for 10 years. He is very humble and helpful. He is a team man. I share a good relationship with him and he has a special place in my heart," Sehwag said, describing his former team-mate.

39-year-old Dravid ended his Test career as the format’s second highest run-getter with 13,288 runs from 164 matches. He has 36 Test centuries and 63 half centuries to his name at an average of 52.31.

Dravid’s highest Test score of 270 came in the 2006 Lahore Test where he put up a record 410-run partnership with Sehwag. Sehwag, who is often censured for his indiscretion while batting, said he wished to imbibe the virtue of patience from Dravid.
