Shakib Al Hasan to kick off CWC media activities

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the schedule of the pre-event media activities which will take place across the three countries in the lead up to its flagship event – the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 – which will take place from 19 February to 2 April in Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka.

All the 14 captains will hold their captains’ pre-tournament media conferences immediately after their arrivals in the host countries while each team is expected to make available up to four players for media interviews during the open media sessions.

Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan will kick off the pre-event media activities in Dhaka when he will hold his captain’s presser at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel on 8 February at 1400. The following day, four Bangladesh players will be available for media interviews from 1515-1630 during the open media session in the Marble Room at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel.

Sri Lanka will undertake its pre-tournament media commitments on 9 February in Hilton Hotel, Colombo, when Kumar Sangakkara will hold his captain’s press conference at 0900 in the Amethyst Hall which will be followed up by the open media session which will be attended by four Sri Lanka players.

The India side will hold its first training session at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Chennai, from 1000-1300 on 10 February. Beforehand and around 0930, Mahendra Singh Dhoni will hold his captain’s media conference in the media conference room.

Also on 10 February, Canada captain Ashish Bagai (in Dhaka), West Indies captain Darren Sammy, Kenya captain Jimmy Kamande (both in Colombo), South Africa captain Graeme Smith, Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbura (both in Chennai) and Ireland captain William Porterfield (in Nagpur) will speak to the media.

On 11 February in Bengaluru, Australia captain Ricky Ponting will hold his pre-tournament media conference at 0900 in the ITC Gardenia Hotel which will also be the venue of India’s open media session which will be attended by four players.

Meanwhile, the opening ceremony of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 will take place at the Bangabandhu Stadium in Dhaka on Thursday 17 February.

The ceremony will start at 1800 but at 1500 at Winter Garden hall in Dhaka Sheraton Hotel, Dhaka, the 14 captains will hold a joint-press conference. At the end of the press conference, there will be a photo-shoot of the captains with the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 trophy.
