Ahmedabad, Dec 5: It took a late onslaught from the West Indies batsmen and an inspired bowling spell from pacer Ravi Rampaul to put an end to India’s glorious winning streak at home. The last 10 overs of the visitors’ innings yielded a remarkable 106 runs, including a record partnership betweem Andre Russell and captain Darren Sammy. For India, a couple of golden ducks from Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir set the stage for another Rohit Sharma gem (95). The previous record was of 91 runs on two occasions – v Sri Lanka at Mumbai WS on April 2 and v England at Mohali on October 20.

Andre Russell and Darren Sammy added 79 runs for the sixth wicket without being separated. This is now West Indies’ highest partnership for this wicket against India in India. Marlon Samuels and Denesh Ramdin had added 72 runs at Baroda on January 31, 2007.

The above partnership came off just 34 balls (at a run-rate of 13.94). This is the second-fastest 50-plus partnership against India. New Zealand’s Lou Vincent and Shane Bond had added 52* runs off 20 balls (run-rate of 15.60) for the tenth wicket at Auckland on January 11, 2003.

Virender Sehwag registered his 13th duck – his second against West Indies. This was his fifth golden duck. Incidentally, Sehwag’s last ODI golden duck had come more than eight years back – v Australia at Mumbai WS on November 1, 2003.

Ravi Rampaul became the second West Indies bowler after Patrick Patterson to take two four-wicket hauls against India in India. Rampaul had taken five for 51 at Chennai in a World Cup game on March 20 this year.
