Stats Highlights, Ind v WI, 3rd ODI

Ahmedabad, Dec 5: It took a late onslaught from the West Indies batsmen and an inspired bowling spell from pacer Ravi Rampaul to put an end to India’s glorious winning streak at home. The last 10 overs of the visitors’ innings yielded a remarkable 106 runs, including a record partnership betweem Andre Russell and captain Darren Sammy. For India, a couple of golden ducks from Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir set the stage for another Rohit Sharma gem (95). But in the end, the visitors made it their fourth win out of five games against India in Ahmedabad to stay alive in the series. Take a look at the numbers that matter from the Motera ODI.

  • Sunil Narine became the 162nd player to represent West Indies in ODIs.

  • 106 runs came in the last 10 overs of the West Indies innings (the last seven produced 93, last five 73 and last two 43). This is India’s worst bowling performance in the last 10 overs this year. The previous record was of 91 runs on two occasions – v Sri Lanka at Mumbai WS on April 2 and v England at Mohali on October 20.

  • Andre Russell and Darren Sammy added 79 runs for the sixth wicket without being separated. This is now West Indies’ highest partnership for this wicket against India in India. Marlon Samuels and Denesh Ramdin had added 72 runs at Baroda on January 31, 2007.

  • The above partnership came off just 34 balls (at a run-rate of 13.94). This is the second-fastest 50-plus partnership against India. New Zealand’s Lou Vincent and Shane Bond had added 52* runs off 20 balls (run-rate of 15.60) for the tenth wicket at Auckland on January 11, 2003.

  • Virender Sehwag registered his 13th duck – his second against West Indies. This was his fifth golden duck. Incidentally, Sehwag’s last ODI golden duck had come more than eight years back – v Australia at Mumbai WS on November 1, 2003.

  • Since scoring 175 against Bangladesh in the opening game of World Cup 2011, Sehwag has scored only one fifty in 10 innings, aggregating 251 runs at an average of 25.10

  • Gautam Gambhir registered his ninth duck, his third against West Indies. Incidentally, this was his first golden duck.

  • Rohit Sharma (95) made his highest score against West Indies, bettering the 90* he made at Visakhapatnam just two days ago.

  • Rohit became the fourth Indian batsman after Krish Srikkanth, Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar to score a ninety in two consecutive ODIs.

  • The seventh-wicket partnership of 91 runs between Rohit Sharma and R Ashwin is India’s best for this wicket against West Indies. The previous best was 88 between Rohit Sharma and Harbhajan Singh at North Sound in 2011.

  • The above partnership is India’s best for the seventh wicket against any country at home. The previous best was an unbeaten 85 between Reetinder Sodhi and Ajit Agarkar against Zimbabwe at Rajkot on December 14, 2000.

  • Ravi Rampaul became the second West Indies bowler after Patrick Patterson to take two four-wicket hauls against India in India. Rampaul had taken five for 51 at Chennai in a World Cup game on March 20 this year.

  • The defeat brought an end to India’s winning streak of 11 consecutive matches at home.

West Indies have now beaten India in four games out of the five they have played at Ahmedabad.
