Stats Highlights, Ind v WI, 3rd Test - Day 3

Mumbai, Nov 24: West Indies made the most of the favourable batting conditions to end their first innings on a mammoth 590 runs – the sixth highest total by a visiting side in the first innings of a Test on Indian soil. For the hosts, R Ashwin impressed with another five-wicket haul taking his tally to 18 wickets from just three Tests. But it was Rahul Dravid who truly shone, crossing the 13,000-run mark and in the process completing 1000 runs in the calendar year. Take a look at how the day added up at the Wankhede.

  • West Indies’ total of 590 is the sixth highest by a visiting side in the first innings of a Test on Indian soil. Interestingly, West Indies are involved in five of these six instances.

  • Virender Sehwag’s six off Darren Sammy was his 88th in Test cricket. He has now equalled Brian Lara’s tally of sixes to move to the second place among leading six-hitters in Test history. Now only Adam Gilchrist has hit more sixes than Sewhag – 100.

  • Sammy, however, had the last laugh as he clean bowled Sehwag. This is thet third consecutive time that he has dismissed Sehwag in the series.

  • Rahul Dravid, on 21, completed 13,000 runs in Test cricket. He became only the second batsman after  teammate Sachin Tendulkar to do so. Tendulkar had taken 163 Tests and 266 innings to reach the 13,000 run-mark.  Dravid did so in 160 Tests and 277 innings.

Dravid, on 48, completed 1,000 runs in the calendar year – he is the first batsman to do so in 2011. This is the third occasion where he has aggregated 1,000 runs in a calendar year. He had aggregated 1,357 runs in 2002 and 1,095 in 2006. He missed the mark by 16 runs in 1997. Dravid is now at level with Virender Sehwag in aggregating 1,000 runs in a calendar year on three occasions. Only Sachin Tendulkar (six times) and Sunil Gavaskar (four times) are ahead of him.
