Mumbai, Nov 24: After an exciting Day 1, the second Test between India and England, at Mumbai, produced some more amazing highlights today. Centurion Cheteshwar Pujara, who was thus far unbeaten in the series, finally perished for 135. He batted for a total of 1,015 minutes this series before falling to Graeme Swann on Day 2. Meanwhile, Swann also crossed a major milestone today, as he got past 200 Test scalps.
Here are these and some more statistical highlights from Day 2 of the Mumbai Test:
Cheteshwar Pujara (135) was dismissed for the first time in the series after batting for 1,015 minutes and scoring 382 runs. He had batted for 513 minutes for his unbeaten 206 in the first innings of Ahmedabad Test and another 51 minutes for his unbeaten 41 in the second innings.
Only two Indians – Sachin Tendulkar (1,224 minutes in 2003-04) and Rahul Dravid (1,111 minutes in 2000-01)- have batted for longer duration between two dismissals in Test cricket.
Pujara was dismissed STUMPED for the first time in his first-class cricket career (70 matches, 113 innings). His mode of dismissals in first-class cricket: Caught - 50, Bowled - 23, LBW-14, Run-out 5, Stumped - 1. On 20 occasions he remained not out.
Graeme Swann completed his 200 wickets in Test cricket when he trapped Harbhajan Singh LBW. Swann became 14th Englishman and 60th bowler overall to accomplish this feat.
Incidentally Swann is only the fifth off-spinner to take 200 wickets in Test cricket, after Muttiah Muralitharan (800), Harbhajan Singh (406), Lance Gibbs (309) and Saqlain Mushtaq (208).
Swann is also the second quickest to 200 wickets in terms of least number of days (1,445 days), after Shane Warne, who took 1,440 days to accomplish this feat. These two are followed by Ian Botham (1,496), Kapil Dev (1,612), Steve Harmison (1,769), Shaun Pollock (1,870) and Glenn McGrath (1,879).
Swann took his wicket tally in 2012 to 49 by the end of Indian innings – most by any bowler this year.
Jonathan Trott made his second duck in three innings. His scores in the series read: 0, 17 and 0.
Monty Panesar (5/129) recorded his best figures against India. His previous best performance against India was 4/101 at Nottingham in 2007.
Panesar is only the second left-arm England spinner in 35 years to take a five-wicket haul against India in India. The last bowler to do so was Ashley Giles (5/67 at Ahmedabad in 2001-02). Before these two Derek Underwood returned the figures of 5/84 at Wankhede in 1976-77.
Alastair Cook (87*) has now remained not out at close of play on four occasions in the series, which is just seven days old! Cook’s instances of remaining not out at close of play - 22* (2nd day), 74* (3rd day) and 168* (4th day) in Ahmedabad and 87* (2nd day) here in Mumbai.
