Sthalekar, Perry book top ODI bowlers' spots

MEDIA RELEASE

Dubai, Mar 17: Australia women on the march after beating India 3-0; India’s Jhulan Goswami slips to fourth in bowling rankings

Meg Lanning and Jess Cameron shoot up rankings along with India’s Harpreet Kaur

Australia bowlers Lisa Sthalekar and Ellyse Perry have capped off a successful tour of India with not only a 3-0 ODI series win but also by ensuring that Australia’s bowlers occupy first and second spots on the Reliance ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings for bowlers.

Sthalekar has further cemented her place as the top bowler in the world after the off-spinner finished the three-match series with figures of 28-5-81-4. Meanwhile, Perry has climbed to her highest ranking to date (2nd) after the seam bowler claimed series figures of 28.1-5-87-9.

The 21-year-old Perry claimed her second-ever ODI five-wicket haul in the series when she snapped up 5-19 in Australia’s victory in the second ODI against India at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 14 March which the team won by a huge margin of 221 runs.

Meanwhile, former India captain Jhulan Goswami, has slipped further down the rankings after a disappointing series against Australia, the seam bowler didn’t manage a single wicket in the three-match series and gave away 106 runs and now occupies fourth in the bowling rankings.

The Reliance ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings for batters is still topped by ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year 2011, Stafanie Taylor of the West Indies.

Taylor has further increased her lead at the top of the table after second placed Mithali Raj of India scored just 35 runs in the recently completed series against Australia and thus she has lost a further 38 ratings points.

Australia batting duo Jess Cameron and Meg Lanning have shot up the rankings to now occupy eighth and ninth positions in the world after both contributed plenty of runs in the series.

Lanning was the top run-getter for the series with 184 runs, including one century, and has risen 25 places in the rankings, while Cameron contributed 122 runs throughout the series to ensure her rise into the top 10, the highest ranking to date for both players.

Despite losing the series 3-0, India can take a positive from the performance of Harpreet Kaur, the 23-year-old Punjab right-hander was the second highest run-getter in the series, after Lanning. Harpreet scored 57, 6 and 63 in the series and her efforts have seen her being rewarded with a leap of 11 places to 14th in the world, her highest ranking to date.

India’s Amita Sharma (19th) and Poonam Raut (27th) have both dropped down the rankings after disappointing series with the bat while Australia’s Rachael Haynes has risen seven places to 29th after the all-rounder, who opens the batting, scored 41, 20 and 42 in the series win.

In the Reliance ICC Women’s ODI Rankings for all-rounders the list is still topped by Taylor of the West Indies, with Sthalekar in second. However, Perry has leapt four places to now sit third in the world pushing India’s Amita into fourth and Jhulan to fifth.
