New Delhi, March 9: Netherlands’ middle-order batsman, South Australian Tom Cooper, spoke to the media briefly before his side took on Group B giants India.
Excerpts from the conversation.
On the team’s performance so far
[It’s been a] great opportunity for the Dutch team as amateurs to be exposed to a tournament like this one that we are learning a lot from.
On the team not living up to the standards they set while playing against England
We surprised a lot of people in our first game and obviously haven’t consistently performed after that. It’s just a matter of coming out today and doing the basics well like we did in that first game and the rest can take care of itself.
On the Dutch batting being good but the bowling being a concern
Obviously, our bowling wasn’t great in the first game but since then we have gone from strength to strength. Our batting has let us down since then. We just have to try and click at the same time and like I said, there is no better place to start at than doing the basics well.
On whether they were missing an impact player like Dirk Nannes
It would have been nice to have a fast bowler like Dirk [Nannes] in and around the group. That wasn’t to be and we have got plenty of talented players in the squad now, players that are definitely talented to compete at this level.
On the crowd at the Kotla
It is going to be very exciting. Playing in an amateur squad in Holland no one would have played in front of a crowd like tonight. It’s going to be very exciting and hopefully a great experience.
