Rajasthan close to ceasing Ranji final berth

Jaipur, Jan 5: Underdogs Rajasthan had the upper-hand at the end of the penultimate day of their Ranji Trophy semi-final against Tamil Nadu at Jaipur. 

Having declared their innings after putting up a mammoth total of 552 for seven on the board, they did well to restrict Tamil Nadu to 190 for three. 

Rajasthan skipper Hrishikesh Kanitkar and batsman Ashok Maneria registered centuries building on the overnight score of 448 for three. Kanitkar remained not-out on 100 which included 13 fours while Maneria made 106 off 189 with 11 fours and two sixes.

Put in to bat, Tamil Nadu struggled early on. They lost three wickets for just 139 runs including the wicket of skipper Dinesh Karthik. Tamil Nadu need a further 363 runs to take a first innings’ lead and book their seat in the Ranji final. Subramaniam Badrinath was playing on 78 not out and Kuthethurshri Vasudevadas unbeaten on 22 when the day's play ended.
