Ranji Day 4: Mumbai, HP register wins

Mumbai, Nov 6: Mumbai began their 2011-‘12 Ranji Trophy bid by beating Railways in the Elite – Group A match in Delhi by 10 wickets. On the fourth day of the first match, the Mumbai bowlers bowled out Railways for 244 runs. Pacer Suryakumar Yadav, who had sent back Faiz Fazal yesterday, set the ball rolling today with the wicket of Anureet Singh. Iqbal Abdulla then wrecked the middle-order claiming three wickets for 29 runs while Dhawal Kulkarni chipped in with two wickets. Mumbai captain, Wasim Jaffer (19), and Kaustubh Pawar (1), then went on to seal the win.

Himachal Pradesh vs Tripura: Himachal Pradesh were another team to finish victorious, beating Tripura by an innings and 15 runs in the Plate League – Group A match. After piling on 531 runs in the first innings, HP bundled out Tripura twice, for 304 & 212 runs respectively. HP’s Gurvinder Singh, who finished with a five-for in the second innings, claimed a total of six wickets while Rishi Dhawan picked four and three wickets in the first and second innings respectively.

Saurashtra vs Orissa: In response to Saurashtra’s 545 and powered by Ravindra Jadeja’s triple-ton, Orissa scored 494 for seven to end the match in a draw after a superb 209 by Natraj Behera at Barabati Stadium.

Punjab vs Uttar Pradesh: The encounter, featuring Punjab’s Harbhajan Singh and UP’s Suresh Raina, ended in a draw at Mohali.

Andhra vs Services: The Plate League – Group A match played at Model Sports Complex in Delhi was drawn thanks to Jasvir Singh’s 133 and Rajat Paliwal’s unbeaten 61.

Haryana vs Delhi:  The highlights of the last day of the Haryana vs Delhi draw were Sunny Singh’s 157 runs for Haryana (before retiring hurt) and a four-for by Parvinder Awana for Delhi.

Jammu and Kashmir vs Assam: After an exciting contest on Day 1 with centuries from Dheeraj Jadhav for Assam and Ian Dev Singh for J&K, the match ended in a draw as the weather made play impossible on the last three days.

Goa vs Maharashtra: The match ended in a draw. After Goa’s first innings ended for 405 earlier in the day, Ganeshraj Narvekar claimed a five-for to wrap up Maharashtra’s second innings for just 91 runs.

Bengal vs Gujarat: Match drawn. The match saw four centuries, two from either side. Manoj Tiwary and Wriddhiman Saha for Bengal and Parthiv Patel and Priyank Panchal for Gujarat.

Vidarbha vs Kerala: Match Drawn

Hyderabad vs Jharkhand: Match drawn

Tamil Nadu vs Baroda: Match drawn. Only 12 overs were bowled in this rain marred match.
