Mumbai, Nov 26: Punjab were the first team to register a win in the fourth round of the Ranji Trophy 2012-13, while Andhra beat J&K and Services beat Assam on Day 3 of the four-day match. Here is the round-up of the day:
Hyderabad vs Mumbai in Hyderabad: In a high-scoring match at Uppal, Hyderabad were 423 for three in the first innings, after skipper Akshath Reddy made 196 and Hanuma Vihari scored 191 on the third day. Both the batsmen were unfortunate to miss out on double hundreds while playing at their home ground. Reddy was sent back by Ramesh Powar, while Vihari’s was dismissed by Ankeet Chavan, after he posted his maiden first-class hundred.
Hyderabad trail by 20 runs in the first innings with seven wickets in hand.
MPCA vs Bengal in Indore: Abhishek Jhunjhunwala took Bengal to 299 in the first innings with a 226-ball 107-run knock on the third day.
After bowling the visitors out earlier in the day, MP were 135 for three in the second innings with Ankit Sharma and Udit Birla still at the crease.
Saurashtra vs Punjab in Punjab: Playing at their home ground in Mohali, Punjab beat Saurashtra by eight wickets. After bowling the opposition out for 233 earlier in the day, the home team chased down 119 comfortably to collect six points from the outright win.
Siddarth Kaul claimed six wickets, while Sandeep Sharma picked three to help bowl out Saurashtra in the second innings on the third day. Chasing the paltry target with more than a day in hand, Punjab lost opener Jiwanjot Singh early, but Karan Goel took his team across the line with an unbeaten 75. Mayank Sidhana chipped in with 21, while captain Mandeep Singh contributed 18.
Gujarat vs Railways in Bhubaneswar: Gujarat finished Day 3 with a 97-run lead against Railways. The visitors were 288 for six in the second innings when play was called off. Manprit Juneja and Rakesh Dhruv were batting on 57 and 19 at stumps.
Railways skipper Sanjay Bangar and Anureet Singh picked two wickets each, while Hardik Rathod chipped in with one.
Delhi vs Tamil Nadu in Delhi: After resuming their first innings on 31 for one, Tamil Nadu were bundled out for 226 and asked to follow on by host’s Delhi at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. Pacer Parvinder Awana claimed a four-for and Pawan Suyal picked three wickets to help skittle out the visitors.
Tamil Nadu had scored two runs without losing a wicket when play was called off.
Haryana vs Baroda in Rohtak: Resuming the third day on 197 for three, Baroda went on post a first innings score of 324. Saurabh Wakaskar was the first to depart for 100 without adding to his overnight score. Veteran Amit Mishra claimed a fiver, while Mohit Sharma picked four wickets.
At the end of day’s play Haryana were 127 for two in their second innings with Sunny Singh (56*) and Abhimnayu Khod (38*) at the crease.
Maharashtra vs Vidarbha in Nagpur: After bowling Vidarbha out for 266 earlier in the day, Maharashtra took a 111-run lead at the end of Day 3 at the VCA. Opener Virag Awate was not out on 54 with skipper Rohit Motwani on 19 at the end of day’s play.
Odisha vs Karnataka in Bangalore: Karnataka require 202 runs to beat Odisha and have nine wickets in hand and a day to go in the match. Leading from the front Vinay Kumar ran through Odisha’s second innings with a seven-wicket haul, while SL Akshay took two and Stuart Binny claimed one wicket. Resuming on 30 for two, Odisha were bowled out for 255.
In reply Karnataka were 43 for one at stumps on Day 3 with Robin Uthappa (25) and Ganesh Satish (5) at the crease.
Jharkhand vs Himachal in Ranchi: Himachal declared their first innings after posting a massive first innings total of 442 for seven on Day 3 after resuming the innings on 201 for four. Coming in to bat at No.7, Rishi Dhawan scored 128, before returning to the dressing room.
Jharkhand who had made 236 in the first innings after opting to bat the HEC International Cricket Stadium Complex were 27 without loss at the end of the third day’s play.
Goa vs Kerala in Malappuram: At the end of day’s play at the Perintalmanna Cricket Stadium, Kerala were trailing in the first innings by 263 runs with four wickets in hand. Resuming the day on 47 for one, the Sony Cheruvathur led side were 249 for six at stumps. Middle-order bat Rohan Prem was batting on 49 with Akshay Kodoth on 19 when play was called off.
J & K vs Andhra in Jammu: Andhra picked seven points from their innings and 15-run win against J & K earlier today. The visitors wrapped up the home team’s second innings for 222. DP Vijaykumar, T Atchuta Rao and SM Basha picked three scalps each to finish the game on the penultimate day without Andhra requiring to bat again. Ian Dev Singh top-scored for the hosts with 65 ,while Ram Dayal (47*) and Sahil Sharma (44) put up a late fight lower down the order.
Assam vs SSCB Delhi (Palam): Assam claimed seven points from their 10-wicket win over Services on the third day of the ongoing round.
SSCB who commenced the day on 302 for eight in the first innings were all-out for 326 in the morning. Shadab Nazar then led the Services’ bowling attack claiming six wickets to bundle Assam out for 170 in the second innings earlier today. With just 27 runs to chase, openers Ansuhl Gupta and Soomik Chatarjee took Assam to victory in 7.2 overs.
