Mumbai, Nov 4: Vidarbha and Jharkhand were the first to register victories on Day 3 of the Ranji Trophy 2012-13 season. The teams finish with six and seven points respectively. Here’s a recap of that and more:
Bengal vs Rajasthan in Kolkata: Bengal’s Sourav Sarkar claimed a four-for, Laxmi Ratan Shukla took three for 21, while Iresh Saxena and Veer Pratap Singh chipped in with two and one scalp each to bowl out defending champions Rajasthan for 161.
In response Bengal scored 109 for five in their second innings to stretch their lead to 206 at the end of Day 3 at the Eden Gardens. Pankaj Singh and Aniket Choudhary took three and two wickets respectively to send back half the Bengal side before the end of day’s play.
Punjab vs Hyderabad in Mohali: Resuming on 243 for no loss, Punjab went on to score 565 runs, before declaring their in the first innings against Hyderabad.
Pacer Siddarth Kaul then claimed three wickets to leave Hyderabad reeling on 46 for three at the end of the third day. The visitors trail by 261 runs with seven wickets in hand and a day to go.
MPCA vs Gujarat in Indore: Gujarat took a 289-run lead at the end of the third day against MP. After bowling out the home team for 250 earlier today, Gujarat posted 184 for the loss of two wickets.
Mehul Patel claimed two wickets earlier today to wrap up the MP innings and finish with a four-for. When play ended today, Niraj Patel and Parthiv Patel were batting on 58 and 55 respectively.
Odisha vs Tamil Nadu in Cuttack: After no play was possible yesterday, TN resumed their innings today and they managed to score one run and lose one wicket before play was called off. At stumps TN were 67 for three.
Haryana vs Vidarbha in Lahli: Vidarbha posted the first outright win of the season, after beating Haryana by eight wickets to claim six points. They lost two wickets while chasing the paltry 34-run target.
Earlier they bowled out Haryana for 183 in their second innings, Sandeep Singh took his second four-for to finish with an eight-wicket haul in the match, while Umesh Yadav and Shrikant Wagh claimed two wickets each.
Baroda vs Karnataka in Baroda: After posting a first innings total of 406 and then bowling the opposition out for 284, Baroda were 115 for four on Day 3. The Yusuf Pathan-led side now lead by 237 runs in their first Ranji Trophy game of the 2012-13 season. Gagandeep Singh claimed a fiver for Baroda earlier in the day.
Abhimanyu Chauhan (52) and first innings centurion Irfan Pathan (33) were at the crease when the day’s play ended.
UPCA vs Delhi in Ghaziabad: Batting second, after UP piled on a first innings total of 403, Delhi are 197 for four in their second innings at the end of the third day. Mithun Manhas was batting on 63 with Virender Sehwag on 21; Sehwag came in to bat at No.6. They trail by 29 runs with six wickets in hand and a day remaining in the match.
Himachal Pradesh vs Kerala in Amtar: With the help of three centurions, HP posted a mammoth 536 in their first innings after resuming on the overnight total of 250 for four.
Vikramjeet Malik then picked the wicket of Kerala opener Abhishek Hegde in the first over, while Mohinderraj Sharma followed up with two more scalps to leave the opposition on 28 for three in their second innings. At the end of Day 3 Kerala were trailing by 279 runs with seven wickets in hand. With early inroads into the Kerala line-up, the Aakash Chopra-led HP side has paved their way to a possible win.
Andhra Pradesh vs SSCB in Anantapur: AP were 87 for six in response to Services’ 297 all-out in the first innings. AP trail by 210 runs with four wickets and a day remaining in the match.
Assam vs Tripura at Guwahati: Forced to follow on, after being bundled out for 145 in the first innings in reply to Assam’s 450, Tripura were 168 for the loss of six wickets at stumps on Day 3. With a day remaining, Assam will be pushing for an outright win when they take the field tomorrow.
J&K vs Jharkhand at Jammu: Shahbaz Nadeem-led Jharkhand claimed seven points after beating J&K by an innings and 31 runs. The captain claimed six wickets in J&K’s second innings to finish with a nine-wicket haul.
Mumbai vs Railways in Mumbai: At 380 for eight, Railways will look to avoid a follow-on when they come out to bat tomorrow. They trail by 190 runs with two tailenders at the crease. For the full report click here
