It's pretty surreal: Pattinson

Melbourne, Dec 29: Playing just his third Test, 21-year-old James Pattinson won his second Man-of-the-Match award for helping his team secure a 122-run win in the first Test against India. The pacer claimed six wickets and remained unbeaten in both innings, scoring a useful 37 not out in his team’s second essay.

Excerpts from the post-match presentation where Pattinson was given the MoM award:

On winning the Man-of-the-Match award playing just his third Test

It’s a pretty surreal sort of feeling for me at the moment. We have come [here] under a bit of pressure [after] Hobart against New Zealand, having lost that game. [To] come here and win the Boxing Day [Test] is just unbelievable.

On playing his first Boxing Day Test

It is my home patch and the crowd has been absolutely fantastic. We have had 200,000 people over the four days and the Victoria support, there is nothing like it. It is the best in the business and to have them behind me has helped us along the way.

On Peter Siddle

Pete’s fantastic. The courage he shows just comes out game after game and he gives it his all and gets the adrenaline in the team going and especially in me. It’s fantastic to have him in the team and [it’s been a] good day […] as well.
