Mumbai, Aug 18: To commemorate India’s 66th Independence Day former captain Anil Kumble rang the closing bell at the Nasdaq Stock Exchange on Saturday.
The legendary Indian spinner was the chief guest at the annual India Day, organised by Federation of Indian Associations (FIA), which is one of the largest organisations of the Indian community in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
Kumble said he was honoured to have an opportunity to represent India at the closing bell ceremony at Nasdaq.
"There is a lot of representation in Nasdaq from India and thanks to the Indian community that a cricketer is here to ring the closing bell," Kumble said.
The India Day parade is attended by thousands of New Yorkers who gather in Manhattan’s Madison Avenue to get a glimpse of India’s culture and heritage through colourful floats and dance performances as well as understand the contribution made by the Indian Americans to the country.
Saif Ali Khan, Indian film actor and the son of former India captain Lt. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, was the grand marshall of the parade.
