Match report: WI vs Ind (Women), 2nd ODI

St Kitts, Mar 3: West Indies beat India by 42 runs in the second ODI to level the three-match series 1-1.

After West Indies won the toss and opted to bat first at Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts opener Stafanie Taylor took the home team to 204 with a patient 132-ball 75. 

Ekta Bisht got India their first breakthrough with the wicket of Juliana Nero (15) with the score on 36. Bisht, who finished with figures of three for 33, also pocketed the key wickets of Deandra Dottin and Merissa Aguilleira. Bowled for 33, the skipper was the second highest run-scorer for the hosts.

Jhulan Goswami, Archana Das and Gouher Sultana picked a wicket apiece for India.

Chasing 205, India lost the wickets of Madhuri Mehta, Sulkashana Naik and Anjum Chopra with just seven runs on the board. Medium pacer Shakera Selman set the ball rolling with the wickets of the openers while Shanel Daley sent back the India captain.

Mithali Raj (22) and Harmanpreet Kaur (29) tried to salvage the Indian innings with a 45-run stand for the fourth wicket before Subrina Monroe dismissed Raj and Shemaine Campbelle and then claimed the key wicket of Kaur.

Mamtha Kanojia (27) and Amita Sharma (33) tried to revive the visitors’ innings with a 58-run partnership until Anisa Mohammed had Kanojia stumped. Kanojia hit two fours and a six during her 56-ball stay at the crease while Sharma struck four boundaries.  Nine runs later, Mohammed castled Jhulan Goswami and Taylor claimed Sharma. With 71 required off 41 and with just three wickets left, Campbelle removed Ekta Bisht. Das remained unbeaten on 17, with Sultana on five, as India lost the game.
