Match report: WI vs Ind (Women), 2nd T20I

Antigua, Feb 20: India Women won a low-scoring match against the West Indies by three runs at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

Put in to bat, the visitors set a 96-run target for the WI in their allotted 20 overs. Opener Amita Sharma was the first to go, sent back by Stafanie Taylor for 17 runs, followed by Sulakshana Naik soon after. Mithali Raj top-scored with 27 runs before being run out by Deandra Dottin while skipper Anjum Chopra remained unbeaten on 16 as India posted 95 runs on the board.

Of the seven bowlers used by WI, Shanel Daley, Anisa Mohammed, Taylor and Stacy-Ann King each picked a wicket.

Defending a small total, pacer and former captain Jhulan Goswami gave India their first breakthrough with the wicket of WI opener Daley (0) in the third over. Taylor, who replaced Daley, was run out by Sharma for naught. No. 3 bat Dottin too returned to the pavilion without adding a run, trapped lbw by Ekta Bisht. King, who came in when the hosts were reeling at three for 19 in the sixth over, made 28 and was involved in a 21-run partnership with opener Juliana Nero (31). However, their efforts could not see WI across the line. The Indian bowlers managed to restrict WI to 92 for the loss of nine wickets and snatch a close victory in the second T20I game.

Jhulan Goswami impressed with figures of 4-1-7-3. Amita Sharma picked two wickets and Bisht and Gouher Sultana took one apiece.

Brief score: India 95/5 in 20 overs (M Raj 27, A Sharma 17) beat West Indies 92/9 in 20 overs (JB Nero 31, SACA King 28, J Goswami 3/7, A Sharma 2/16) by 3 runs
