Dominica, Feb 23: West Indies beat India by four wickets at Windsor Park in the third T20I to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
Asked to bat first, the India openers put together 39 runs before losing their first wicket. Opener Mithali Raj top-scored with an innings of 27 while Amita Sharma (18) and Harmanpreet Kaur (13) were the only other batsmen to reach double-digit figures as the India batting line-up struggled against West Indies. Stafanie Taylor claimed two wickets while Anisa Mohammed, Shemaine Campbelle and Shanel Daley picked up a wicket each.
Defending 83 runs, India claimed three early wickets to leave the hosts tottering at 10 for three. However, Merissa Aguilleira, who joined Deandra Dottin in the middle, rescued the struggling home team with a 29-run partnership. After Dottin (16) fell to Gouher Sultana, Aguilleira struck a 34-run stand with Stacey-Ann King (15), which further consolidated the West Indies run chase.
Although the India bowlers took the game into the last over, the WI skipper took her team across the finish line. Needing six runs off the last over, the hosts reached the target with two balls to spare.
Left-arm spinner Ekta Bisht claimed two wickets while pacer Jhulan Goswami, Amita Sharma and Gouher Sultana took one apiece.
Brief score: India 83/7 in 20 overs (Mithali Raj 27, S Taylor 2/16) lost to West Indies 84/6 in 19.4 overs (M Aguilleira 39*, Ekta Bisht 2/17) by 4 wickets
