Aaron targets Asia Cup comeback

Mumbai, Jan 31: Indian fast bowler Varun Aaron missed an opportunity to test himself in Australia due to an injury to his back. But the aggressive pacer is already looking forward to making his comeback during the Asia Cup in March 2012.

From doing the hard yards in domestic cricket to becoming one of India’s most promising pace prospects, it has been quite a journey for Aaron. The Jharkhand quickie has four ODI caps to his name after debuting against England in October 2011. A string of injuries has plagued the Indian side in the recent past, but Aaron hopes to regain fitness and resume bowling in the next couple of weeks.

“The discomfort is there, but the pain has subsided. Though I haven’t bowled yet, I am hopeful of doing so in a couple of weeks. I want to attain peak fitness before the Asia Cup,” he said to a leading English daily.

Missing out on the Australia tour was a huge blow to Aaron’s cricketing education. “Of course I was upset to have missed such an important series. But then injuries are unavoidable in any sport. These are early days for me and I only want to look ahead rather than worry about the past,” Aaron said.

The pacer also spoke about his admiration for India’s pace spearhead Zaheer Khan and his close bond with colleague Umesh Yadav.

“It’s been a great journey so far. Though I haven’t played along with Zaheer, I learned a lot by interacting with him. He is always ready to give important tips. I like bowling in tandem with Umesh Yadav. We are good friends off the field as well,” he said.
