Dravid crosses 13,000-run mark

Mumbai, Nov 24: Rahul Dravid has become the second cricketer in the history of the game to complete 13,000 Test runs. Dravid achieved this feat when he drove Darren Sammy for a boundary through the covers in the 29th over of the India’s first innings in the third Test match against the West Indies being played at the Wankhede Stadium here in Mumbai.

Dravid, who came in to bat at the fall of Virender Sehwag’s wicket just before lunch, needed 21 runs at the start of his innings to bring up the landmark. The No. 3 batsman took 44 deliveries, which included four fours, to reach the milestone.

Only Sachin Tendulkar, with more than 15000 runs, has scored more runs in Test cricket than Dravid. Ricky Ponting (12,557 runs) and Jacques Kallis (12,005 runs) follow Tendulkar and Dravid on the list of leading run-getters in Test cricket.,

It has been a prolific year for Dravid who is currently the leading run-scorer in Tests in 2011. Beginning his innings today with an aggregate of 952 runs, Dravid is ahead of batting stars like Ian Bell (950 runs), Alastair Cook (927 runs) and Kumar Sangakkara (927 runs). First innings centurion Darren Bravo rounds off the list of the top five run-getters of 2011 with 901 runs.

Having reached 13,000 runs, Dravid is now a contender for the most centuries in Test cricket. Dravid, who has scored five Test centuries this year and 36 overall, is currently fourth on this list behind Sachin Tendulkar (51), Jacques Kallis (40) and Ricky Ponting (39).
