Mumbai, Feb 16: Chasing 244 to win, Canada fell short of England’s score by 16 runs in a warm-up game in Bangladesh today.
The Canadian top and middle-order failed miserably with none of the batsmen managing to reach double-digits. But the lower-order, led by Rizwan Cheema, fought valiantly to propel the team total. Cheema made 93 runs off 70 deliveries with 10 fours and five sixes.
Khurram Chohan continued to fight after the fall of Cheema’s wicket. Chohan (44 off 75 balls) was the last go as Canada were all out in 46.1 overs. Stuart Board finished with impressive figures of five for 39.
Earlier in the day, England won the toss and elected to bat first At the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, Fatullah.
Wicketkeeper Matthew Prior top-scored for England with 78 runs while Jonathan Trott made 57. Kevin Pietersen added 24 runs and Stuart Broad chipped in with 22 runs. Khurram Chohan and Harvir Baidwan picked up three wickets each to wrap up the England innings in 49.4 overs for 243 runs
Canadahad won their previous three warm-up games against Netherlands, Afghanistan and Bangladesh respectively.
