Jamaica, June 20: Dismissing VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni in only the third Test match of ones career is a dream come true for any young bowler. West Indies leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo was living the dream as he claimed the wickets of these three stalwarts while also taking three catches on a single day. One of the catches was effected brilliantly, while running, to dismiss Harbhajan Singh and break the partnership building between Singh and Suresh Raina.
At the end of day’s play, Bishoo spoke to the media about his vital contribution for his side on the first day of the first Test match.
Excerpts from the media interview:
On the day’s play
We had a good bowling session this morning. Harbhajan [Singh] and [Suresh] Raina put on a good partnership. After that we came back in the game and we started off with batting so I think we are in a good position right now.
On picking the three key wickets of Laxman, Dhoni and Dravid
I feel really good. [It was a] really [good] opportunity to bowl to these guys and get them out and it’s a feeling that I can’t explain right now. Watching them play all those years of cricket and bowling to them, and bowling that way to them, is a good opportunity and I enjoyed it.
On what he learned from the second half of the day’s play as the Indian batsmen went after his bowling
I should be more consistent and just bowl a good line to them and not [bowl] too much of flat balls and stuff like that. [I need to bowl] just a normal line and length to them.
On the catch that dismissed Harbhajan Singh
I had to take it no matter what. I had to catch it [as they] had a good partnership going. At the end, if I [could] catch it, it could break the partnership and we could get the momentum [back], which I was hoping, and [I was] finally [able to] pull it off.
On the pitch
As [long] as the wicket’s spinning, it’s a good opportunity for the spinners […] We are in a good position right now. The batsmen have just got to apply themselves, just concentrate hard and make use of [the pitch] as much as possible.
