Ind vs. NZ 2012: Test Series Averages

Bengaluru, Sep 3: India registered their first ever Test series sweep of New Zealand by clinching the two-match series 2-0. The hosts’ cause was largely helped by their potent spin attack led by R Ashwin and Pragyan Ojha. Both bowlers took a total of 31 Kiwi scalps during this series. In fact, Ashwin picked up five wickets or more on three out of four innings, and Ojha also chipped in with a five-for in the first innings of the second Test. For the visitors, Tim Southee, who was included in the side only in the second Test, was the pick of the bowlers. He accounted for eight Indian wickets at an average of 16.50.

In the batting department, India’s charge was led by centurions, Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli. The youngsters tallied for over 200 runs each during the two Tests. Even skipper, MS Dhoni, had a notable series, scoring 183 runs at an average of 91.50. Meanwhile, Kiwi captain, Ross Taylor, made history as he became the first New Zealand skipper to score a Test ton on India soil; he tallied 157 runs during the series.
