On the penultimate day of the 2012-13 Inter State Twenty20 league Jagadeesh V A propelled Kerala to victory over TN with a quick-fire 75 while ER Dwivedi slammed 65 in UPCA’s triumph.
Here is the round-up for the day:
Central Zone
UPCA vs Rajasthan: Unbeaten on 65, E R Dwivedi powered UPCA to a thumping nine-wicket win over Rajasthan in Nagpur. After opting to field first, the UP bowlers ran through the Rajasthan line-up to bowl out the opposition for 103. Despite a half-century by AS Lamba and 20 by P Sharma, the rest of the line-up crumbled without even reaching double-digit figures after the 43-run opening stand. Imtiyaz Ahmed claimed a four-for while RP Singh and AG Murtaza dismissed two each and Praveen Kumar picked one. UP then cruised to the target with 33 balls to spare.
MPCA vs Railways: Chasing 159 to win, MPCA beat Railways by three wickets by scaling the target with two balls to spare. Udit Birla top-scored for MPCA with 48 runs in the game at Nagpur.
North Zone
Punjab vs SSCB: Punjab posted a three-wicket win against Services in Lahili. After restricting SSCB to 114 for nine, Punjab achieved the target with five balls to spare. Mandeep Singh was the highest scorer for Punjab with 27 runs while TS Kohli and MA Sidana contributed 22 and 20 runs respectively.
Himachal vs J&K: J&K went down to Himachal by five wickets after opting to bat first and posting 133 runs on the board. Parveez Rasool was the top-scorer for J&K with 44 while Paras Dogra slammed fifty to help Himachal claim victory.
DDCA vs Haryana: Delhi pulled off a two-run win over Haryana on the fifth day of the ongoing domestic T20 league. Bowled out for 110 after opting to bat at Lahili, the Delhi bowling attack spearheaded by Parvinder Awana (three wickets) restricted Haryana to 108 for eight in the 20-over a side game.
South Zone
Goa v Andhra: Andhra posted a four-wicket win over Goa in Shimoga on the pen-ultimate day of the domestic twenty20 league phase. After Swapnil Asnodkar took Goa to 146 for eight with a half-century, Bharat KS helped Andhra achieve the target with a 36-ball 51-run knock. N Jyothi Sai Krishna took Andhra across the line with 21 not out along with SB Dasari on two after the middle-order brought them within reach of the target with useful contributions.
Kerala v Tamil Nadu: Jagadeesh V A starred in Kerala’s four-wicket win over Tamil Nadu in Shimoga. Chasing 184, the TN opener whipped 75 off 51 balls with two sixes and seven fours before being sent back by Yo Mahesh. RV Gomez (22 off 11) then took Kerala across the line with P Prasanth. Earlier, KB Arun Kartik (66) and Dinesh Karthik (44) had propelled TN to 183 for three after being put in to bat.
Hyderabad vs Karnataka: Karnataka beat Hyderabad by 12 Runs in Badravati. After MA Agarwal’s 64-ball 111 took Karnataka to 185 for seven, K Gowtham and Manish Pandey helped bowl the team to victory with four-wicket hauls each. The Karnataka bowlers restricted Hyderabad to 173 for nine.
East Zone
Assam v Jharkhand: Chasing 149 runs at Agartala, Assam cruised to a six-wicket win against Jharkhand in the shortest format of the game. Pallav Kumar Das scored fifty while Dheeraj Jadhav made 38 off 33 to help Assam gain four points from the win.
Bengal v Odisha: After posting 129 runs on the board, Odisha restricted Bengal to 95 for seven to pull off a comprehensive 34-run win at Agartala. Earlier, Govind Podder (46) and lower-order bat DR Behera (30) were the only batsmen to reach double-digits after Odisha before they were bowled out. LU Shukla and I A Saxena claimed three wickets apiece to help bundle out the opposition. Defending the total, Odisha bowlers SB Pradhan (three wickets) and BC Mohanty (2 wickets) ran through the Bengal top-order to help pull off a win.
West Zone
Saurashtra v Baroda: Baroda beat Saurashtra by seven wickets in the ongoing league in Ahmedabad. Put in to bat, openers BM Chauhan (43) and JN Shah (49) registered a 74-run run opening stand for Saurashtra until HH Pandya removed Shah. The breakthrough triggered a collapse and losing wickets at regular intervals Saurashtra set the opposition a 134-run target. IM Pathan and Pandya claimed two wickets apiece while Bharghav Bhatt took three for Baroda. Chasing the target, Baroda lost KH Devdhar early but Aditya Waghmode (66 n.o.) and Ambati Rayudu (47) ensured that the team overhaul the target with ease.
Mumbai vs Maharashtra: A sparkling century by young opener Vijay Zol and a five-wicket haul by Rahul Tripathi helped the Maharashtra beat Mumbai by 17 runs at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad. An impressive 63-ball 109 with five sixes and 11 boundaries by Zol and a quick-fire 22-ball 53 by Kedar Jadhav ensured Maharashtra set an imposing 216-run target for Mumbai after Rohit Motwani elected to bat. Domnic Joseph then claimed BR Shetty to give Maharashtra their first breakthrough while Ganesh Gaikwad (two wickets), Rahul Tripathi and Bharatkumar Solanki (one wicket) held Mumbai to 198 for nine and defended the total successfully.
