The 2nd BCCI Level 1 Curators Course was held at Bangalore from 26th June to 5th July 2019. In all, 20 participants attended the course from various Associations.
Mr. P R Viswanathan, Mr. Venkat Sundaram, Mr. Ashish Bhowmick and Mr. Taposh Chatterjee were appointed as teaching faculties for the Course.
For the first time, BCCI decided to appoint outside examiners. Mr. P R Viswanathan and Mr. Venkat Sundaram as examiners.
Dr. R Parma and Mr. P Nagabhushan conducted sessions on mixture of soil, irrigation and properties of grass respectively.
Following topics were covered in the course.
1. Pitch preparation and pitch construction
2. Mixing of soils
3. Pitch Layering
4. Pitch Rolling
5. Grass & Irrigation
The participants were assigned one pitch each to prepare, as part of practical assessment.
The participants, along with the faculty members, visited Agricultural University, Bangalore where Dr. Parma shared his expertise on soil in respect of cricket pitch preparation and explained in great detail the characteristics of soil. He has also demonstrated the difference in terms of swelling properties of clay and red soil.
The examination was conducted for pitch preparation on 2nd July. The exam tested the knowledge on right selection of soil, filter medium for drainage and grass. Viva voce and written examination were conducted accordingly. The candidate who secures 45 marks out of 75 in each theory and practical both will be declared successful.
