After a win in the first warm-up game against the Windies, India Women registered another win in their second and final warm-up game. Playing at at the Guyana National Stadium in Georgetown, India beat England by 11 runs.
India were powered by captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s blazing 62 not out (32b, 6x4, 3x6). She combined with Deepti Sharma for a sixth-wicket partnership of 54 to rescue India from a tricky 70 for five.
Poonam Yadav then claimed three wickets to help restrict England to 133 for eight, Dannielle Wyatt’s 54 (53b, 2x4) going in vain. Radha Yadav and Deepti Sharma took two wickets each.
India coach Ramesh Powar sounded positive after the team’s second win. “Where we were three-four months back and where we are now, we are happy what we are doing. It takes time, I hope they understand this. We try and dominate every situation, that is what we are looking for,” he said.
“Their spinners out bowled us. They bowled into the wicket and protected the short boundary. We bowled all the length and got hit, gave the batter a chance to hit over somebody’s head, which you can’t do in these conditions,” England coach Mark Robinson told the official ICC website.
