India U19 trounce SL to seal 6th Asia Cup title

They entered the tournament as favourites and exited as champions. Unbeaten in the tournament, India U19 dished out a clinical performance as they beat Sri Lanka U19 by 144 runs in the Asia Cup final played at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, India posted a strong 304-3 in their allotted 50 overs and skittled out Sri Lanka for just 160 in 38.4 overs. Harsh Tyagi’s spin was too hot to handle as he returned amazing figures of 10-0-38-6. The left-arm spinner was named the Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling effort that never allowed Sri Lanka to come anywhere close to India’s massive total. Siddharth Desai picked 2 wickets while Mohit Jangra chipped in with one.

Earlier, Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (85 off 113 balls) and Anuj Rawat (57 off 79 balls) were in red-hot form as they put on 121 runs for the opening wicket. Once Rawat was out, Jaiswal was joined by Devdutt Padikkal (31 off 43 balls) and the two kept the scoreboard ticking by adding another vital stand of 59 runs in 12.2 overs.

India shifted to the highest gear once the death overs began as Ayush Badoni struck 52 off 28 balls (2x4, 5x6) and stand-in captain Prabh Simran hit 65 no off 37 balls, hitting the Lankan bowlers to all parts of the ground. In one over from left-arm spinner Shashika Dulshan, Badoni hit four sixes
