Management backed me: Hussey
Adelaide, Jan 28: Michael Hussey’s batting revival and calm presence on the field were an important part of Australia’s 4-0 series sweep against a hapless Indian unit. Speaking to the TV channel after the Adelaide Test, Hussey said that he got the necessary backing from the team management going into the crucial Test series against India.
Excerpts:
On the series whitewash
It’s been an outstanding series for the boys. I think we’ve played some really good cricket and it’s been amazing to be a part of such a series.
On being under pressure coming into the series
I felt I had the backing and the belief from the coaching staff, selectors and the captain, so I tried to ignore sort of the external pressure that was being put. There is enough pressure in Test-match cricket out in the middle without having to worry about external stuff. I was just trying to put all that stuff out of my head and play good cricket.
On Virat Kohli being run out by Ben Hilfenhaus
It was a pretty amazing run out; there is such a fine line in this game, particularly for batsmen. You can make one mistake and you are on your way back to the pavilion; you get a good ball and luck just doesn’t go your way. When things are going your way, you’ve got to cash in. The little things went our way in the series and that gave us the confidence to keep going and win convincingly.
On Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman
I don’t know what’s going to happen with those guys but no matter what they are great players and they are very well respected in our country.
