One of only 11 players to have scored more than 1000 runs in a single Ranji Trophy season, Rahane comes into the Indian team having made rapid strides on the Indian domestic circuit. He has represented Mumbai at all age levels and has also been a part of the Indian U-19 and India 'A' teams. More recently, he represented the country at the Emerging Players Tournament in Australia where he scored two centuries.
Rahane has previously represented Mumbai Indians in the IPL but turned out for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2011. Playing for the Rajasthan franchise, captain Shane Warne marked Rahane as a player for the future.
