Hailing from Hyderabad, Tilak Varma is a gifted left-handed batsman renowned for his clean strokeplay, ability to find gaps, and natural fluency in rotating strike. He made his first-class debut for Hyderabad in the 2018–19 season, and a year later earned selection for the 2020 Under-19 World Cup in South Africa, where he featured in all six matches during India’s run to the final, scoring 86 runs across three innings.
Strong performances in domestic cricket soon drew the attention of IPL franchises. Tilak finished as Hyderabad’s second-highest run-scorer in the 2021–22 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, amassing 215 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 147.26. His rise in the IPL and consistent domestic outings paved the way for national selection. He made his T20I debut against the West Indies at Tarouba in 2023, followed by his ODI debut against Bangladesh.
Tilak also etched his name into the record books by registering the highest individual score in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy history, by scoring 151 against Meghalaya in the 2024/25 season. His true coming-of-age performance in international cricket arrived in the 2025 Asia Cup final against Pakistan, where his composed 69* guided India to the title and earned him the Player of the Match award.
Today, Tilak Varma has established himself as a constant presence for India in the shortest format which is a testament to his consistency, temperament, and ability to deliver in high-pressure moments.
