Ishan Kishan, a dynamic left-handed wicketkeeper-batter from Jharkhand, is known for his fearless and explosive batting. He made his first-class debut at just 16 in 2014 and quickly showcased his talent, registering a century and five fifties in his first ten matches. One of his early standout knocks was a blistering 87, including eight sixes, on a turning Rajkot pitch against Saurashtra in the 2015 Ranji Trophy. In 2016, Ishan’s breakthrough moment came when he led India at the Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh where the team ended up being the runners-up.
He had a stellar 2016–17 Ranji Trophy season, where he amassed 799 runs in ten matches at an average above 57. His gritty 273 against Delhi, after Jharkhand slipped to 80 for 4, and a follow-up 136 against Saurashtra highlighted his temperament and skill.
A stellar IPL 2020–21 season in the UAE, where he scored 516 runs for Mumbai Indians in a title-winning campaign, fast-tracked his entry into the national side. He made his T20I debut against England in 2021 and followed it with an ODI debut in Sri Lanka. His career-defining moment arrived in 2022 when he smashed a double century against Bangladesh. He continued to deliver impactful innings, including a crucial 82 against Pakistan in the 2023 Asia Cup, and earned a place in India’s 2023 World Cup squad. Ishan Kishan remains one of India’s most exciting contemporary batting talents.
