Dominant Tamil Nadu beat Baroda by 7 wickets to lift Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

Manimaran Siddharth scalped four wickets while C Hari Nishanth and Baba Aparajith anchored the chase as Tamil Nadu beat Baroda by seven wickets and clinched the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

After limiting Baroda to 120/9 on the back of some fine spin-bowling display, Tamil Nadu moved to 25 in under 4 overs before losing N Jagadeesan ā€“ the leading run-getter of the tournament ā€“ for 14.

C Hari Nishanth was then joined by Baba AparajithĀ  and the pair kept the scorecard ticking to take Tamil Nadu past fifty in the eighth over. However, the 41-run stand between the two was broken after Babashafi Pathan dismissed the left-hander for 35 in the 12th over.

Skipper Dinesh Karthik then scored 22 off 16 balls before getting out when Tamil Nadu had reached 101.

Shahrukh Khan, who scored a quickfire 18* off 7 balls, and Baba Aparajith, who scored 29 off 35 balls, then took Tamil Nadu home on the final ball of the 18th over, helping the team to clinch their second Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Earlier, after electing to bowl, Tamil Nadu struck early as Baba Aparajith dismissed Ninad Rathva in the second over. While Baroda skipper Kedar Devdhar creamed two fours in the fourth over, he got out in the same over Manimaran Siddharth, who had replaced Aswin Crist in the playing XI, picked his first wicket of the match.

The left-arm spinner scalped his second wicket in his next over as Tamil Nadu left Baroda reeling for 28/3 after the end of the powerplay.

Baroda lost their fourth wicket in the seventh over as Bhanu Pania was run-out. Manimaran Siddharth continued to make merry and scalped two wickets in the ninth over to reduce Baroda to 36/6.

Vishnu Solanki put up a fight with the bat and he and Atit Sheth put up a 58-run stand to push Baroda closer to the 100-run mark before the latter was holed out in the deep for 29 in the penultimate over.

Solanki was then joined by Bhargav Bhatt and the two added a quickfire 26 runs. However, Solanki got out on the fifth ball of the final over after scoring a fighting 49 with the help of 1 four and 2 sixes as Tamil Nadu managed to limit Baroda to 120/9.
